Quilter's Show and Tell



This is my entry to this week's Quilter's Show and Tell over at the Quilting Gallery. The theme for this week is Quilts for the Little Ones.

As you may know I finished this quilt earlier in the year. This is the second time that I have done this quilt. It is the perfect quilt to whip up in a hurry as it comes together very quickly.

 

What I like about this quilt design is that the design is particularly useful in showcasing the feature fabric, in this case,  zebras that are hopping all over the place. There are currently so many bright and colourful conversational type fabrics around and I often look at them and think that they are far too pretty to cut up into really small pieces.

 

 

The quilt measures 36.5 x 48.5 inches and is quilted with an overall loop design.

Watch this space as I am intending to put the pattern up on the blog in the near future (just have to figure out how to upload a PDF).

Quilters' Show and Tell

This week's theme is English Paper Piecing and my table runner from last year fits the bill (apologies to all who have already seen it).

 



Except for the border and binding, this table runner is entirely hand pieced using the English Paper Piecing method. The table runner measures 19.5"x 34". I must say, that this was one of the most therapeutic things I have ever done. There was no rushing this, just steady stitching at a very slow pace...I really enjoyed doing this and the end result was so worth it. Quilters' Show & Tell

Here is my contribution for this week's Quilters' Show & Tell held over at the Quilting Gallery. The theme for this week is Scrappy Triangles.

An 'Oldie but a Goodie', this quilt was one of the first bigger quilts that I made. It is used daily, has been through the washing machine several times and still looks great.

So simple, yet so effective...

The blocks measure 8in and the overall size of the quilt is 75 1/2 x 51 1/2in. It is entirely made out of scraps (at that stage I was collecting offcuts at the local fabric shop).

The designer of this quilt is Jane Morgan and the original quilt is called 'Anything Goes...Scrap Quilt'  and was featured in Stunning Patchwork No 1, 2007.

Weekly Themed Quilt Contest

It's the Weekly Themed Quilt Contest over at the Quilting Gallery and this week's theme is Stars.

My contribution is my 'Stars on Stripes' quilt, a simple design using a fairly bold floral print in combination with a more muted striped print.  I made this quilt in 2009 and it remains one of my favourites. The idea was to make a bed sized quilt but I ran out of steam half way through and decided to finish it off with some simple sashing in between. The colour of the sashing that I ended up choosing added a vibrant feel to this quilt and really tied it all together. The quilt measures 36"x 45". The star block is called Duck Tracks.

Weekly Themed Quilt Contest

 
I love virtual quilt shows...and this week I am able to participate, as the theme is Leaves, Trees and Flowers.

I put up my Autumn Leaves Quilt that I finished in 2011. I am pretty much a traditional quilter and love the Maple Leaf block. Constructing it out of Japanese fabric, I started experimenting with its orientation and this is the result.

I wanted the leaves to be just "thrown" across the quilt in an orderly way to evoke the sense of the leaves being scattered across the quilt top. Anyway, this is the version I finally settled on.
